The demo of Hard Reset has been released yesterday. Hard Reset is a single player FPS for the PC. The action takes place in a cyberpunk city and the game gives you a large variety of weapons to kill them all!

I downloaded Hard Reset from gamefront.com (very fast server, 10min to download the 1GB exe setup).

I tested the demo on a Radeon HD 6970 and with Ultra Setting the framerate reached 200 FPS… Modern cards are too powerful for Direct3D 9 games. Hard Reset is a DX9 game, but unlike Crysis 2, Hard Reset is available only on PC…

Actually DX9 or not, it doesn’t matter too much because the game is very fun to play, it’s quite nice and the graphics are very cool. Here are some screenshots and a video of the first minutes of Hard Reset:

I actually forgot that DX9 is already a very good Graphics API.. Both DX10 and DX11 had nothing to what DX9 did to improve from DX8..

This is what Deus Ex’s graphics should have been like. DX9? Yes sure, why not. It’s custom made for PC. That’s all that matters.

I prefer a DX9 PC exclusive over a DX11 console port anytime. These guys had the good will to make a good PC game. At least let’s give them the benefit of addressing as larger userbase as possible, will we?

Witcher 2 was DX9 and was just plain awesome. It’s not the API that makes a game great, it’s how much work goes into it, or how much they don’t screw it when porting it over.

I never understood why developers scale the console games up to the PC and not scaling the PC games down to the consoles. I mean it’s the same amount of work anyway, but the result would be better for the PC.

Also I’d bet my nuts off, that these guys are scene demo makers. It’s obvious they made it with a lot of yearning, the way a demo maker would.

    Buying this instantly. Great job.
