Something has changed in NVIDIA's kernel mode driver.
Now GPU Caps Viewer shows the short version number instead of the full one.

The NVAPI function that returns the full branch version is marked as deprecated by NVIDIA. I can still use it but there is a new function to get the branch version. Sadly this new function does not return the full branch version...
