Using latest windows 64, 20h2, kombustor crashes with the following error. Latest version of kombustor. Any ideas? Thanks.

BTW-Using a new EVGA 3090 Ultra.

Do you have something in Kombustor log file (_kombustor_log.txt) ?

I'm still with win10 v2004 but I will update to v20H2 asap.

Hopper64

Don't see any specific error in the log file. Tried it again today with the same application error:

Ok, I couldn't resist to test, so I updated my system with latest win10 v20H2.
I tested Kombustor 4.1.7 with a RTX 2070 + latest GeForce 457.30, and everything seems ok, no crash.

I don't have yet a RTX 30 GPU, so one thing you can do is to rename the GPU monitoring plugin, maybe it's the source of the crash. The GPU monitoring plugin is located here:

MSI_Kombustor_FOLDER/plugins/plugin_gxc_gpumon_x64.dll

Just rename it to disable it.

What is your graphics driver?

Hopper64

Driver 457.30.

I added a 1 to the front of the file. No change.

Try 457.33 which is from a different driver branch.

457.33 VK456_14-10
457.30 r457_22-3

Hopper64

I don't see a hotfix 457.33 driver available. Where would you download that?

Stefan

Hopper64

So I download that driver  and install over my existing 457.30 regular GeForce driver?

Stefan

Yes, should be no problem.
If you don't like a newer driver for whatever reason, you can always quickly roll back via device manager.

Hopper64

I downloaded and looked at the installation files. It will change my existing installation including GeForce experience. I would prefer not to do that if possible. Any other ideas? Thanks!

Stefan

If you are not in a hurry, you can recheck with the "RTX 3060 Ti" launch driver on December 2nd

Hopper64

I'll probably wait on that and report back. I need a water block for this 3090 FTW EVGA card anyway. Hope EK comes out with something soon. Prefer to have it under water to let it really stretch its legs. Thanks!!

Just tried new driver 357.51. Still the same error:

There is something I didn't understand: do you manage to launch Kombustor and see the main user interface?
Looks like there is an issue with Vulkan demos. Can you start an OpenGL demo?

Hopper64

I do not see the main interface actually. I just see the cursor of the mouse turn and nothing else.

JeGX

ok so try to rename the Vulkan plugin to disable it:
{Kombustor folder}/plugins/plugin_gxc_vulkan2_x64.dll

Can you start Kombustor after that change?

Hopper64

Yes! That worked. Renaming the vulkan plugin worked. I didn't know there was a new version of Kombustor available. Downloaded that 4.1.8.0 and still had the same issue, but I just placed a (1) in front of the plugin file--- /plugins/1plugin_gxc_vulkan2_x64.dll and all works as intended. Thanks for the help!!  :)

JeGX

Cool!
There must be a bug in my Vulkan code with new RTX 30 series. But I still don't have a RTX 30 card and then I can't reproduce and fix the bug.
