CPU for Ray Tracing
« on: December 09, 2018, 10:35:55 AM »
I recently invested in a 2080 and now I'm looking to upgrade my CPU (6700k). Seeing how the CPU is more of a commitment as I need to also grab a new mobo, etc.. I want to make sure it'll keep me covered in the future.

l only really use my PC for gaming, so was looking at the 9700k but it's only 8 cores with no hyper-threading. I read for battlefield Dice recommends 6 hyper-threaded cores so I'm worried that it might not be a future proof investment, depending on how the implementations of RTX go. The alterative is Ryzen, but the chips don't generally seem as good for gaming.

Any recommendations? Cheers

Welcome Angryprash! :)

No need new CPU because CPU doesn't use raytracing but yes CPU uses physics, AI... but it isn't heavy. ;)

Is there a specific CPU that's known to perform great with Ray Tracing btw?
