GeeXLab not opening properly under Windows 10
« on: February 03, 2016, 10:59:45 AM »
Hey - I'm trying GeeXLab for the first time.  I downloaded the .zip file (Windows, 64-bit, version 0.9.4.1), and opened GeeXLab.exe.  I find that the program appears on my task bar (I get a GL icon), and when I hover over this icon I see a thumbnail of what looks like a launched application, with "File", "Tools" and "Help" menus.  However, when I click on this icon nothing comes up.

Has anyone come across this problem and have ideas about a solution?

Thanks!

Ally

Could you post the content of the log file (_geexlab_log.txt) ? You should find this file in GeeXLab folder.

Sure - please see below.  Looking forward to hearing whether this raises any ideas.

Thanks

There's no visible problem in the log file. Everything looks ok.
I have a test system with an Intel HD Graphics 530, let me do a quick test...

GeeXLab 0.9.4.1 works fine on my Win10 64-bit + HD Graphics 530 GPU (with Intel drivers v4352). Your driver is v4326. I don't think that will make a difference but you can install latest Intel graphics drivers. Maybe you have an antivirus or firewall that is blocking GeeXLab. You can also try the 32-bit version of GeeXLab... Let me know.

I updated my drivers, and also tried the 32-bit version - didn't solve the issue.

Never mind: I will try from a different laptop, which hopefully will work; I'll post again if it doesn't.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Works fine on another laptop (with an Iris GPU), so must be some odd issue with the previous laptop I tried.

Great!

I though about two other things you can try on your previous laptop:

1/ try to rename the plugins/ folder so GeeXLab can't load plugins. There is perhaps an issue with a plugin.
2/ disable the online check for newer versions. You can disable this check with an additional option in command line:
Code: [Select]
GeeXLab.exe /no_online_check

Thanks for the ideas.

I tried #1 first - I renamed "plugins" to "pluginstemp".  When I opened GeeXLab I then got a popup about a newer version being available (looks like one was released today).  So, it seems like the checking for updates is working.

I got this new version.  I found I had the same problem as my initial issue.  I then tried renaming "plugins" to "pluginstemp"; this did not help.  I then tried your suggestion #2; unfortunately this did not help either (perhaps not surprising, since it did appear that the older version was able to successfully check for updates).

I'm happy to try other ideas if you have them.  But from my project's perspective, I can work with the version that is running on my other laptop.

Cheers

Ally
