Everyone who uses or considered using Vulkan Memory Allocator library is invited to fill in a survey, to help shape the future of the library: - Vulkan Memory Allocator Survey March 2019

It is noteworthy that with this driver release AMD catches up with competition – Nvidia and Intel – in supporting Vulkan sparse binding and sparse residency, which makes it usable in Windows PC games.

Developers using Vulkan can find a quick overview of this feature in article:

Vulkan Memory Allocator version 2.1.0-beta.1 has been released yesterday after few months of development. It adds many new features, including:
  • Added linear allocation algorithm, accessible for custom pools, that can be used as free-at-once, stack, double stack, or ring buffer.
  • Added feature to record sequence of calls to the library to a file and replay it using dedicated application.
  • Improved support for non-coherent memory.
  • Improved debug features related to detecting incorrect mapped memory usage.
  • Changed format of JSON dump to include more information and allow better coloring in VmaDumpVis.
And of course many smaller bug fixes, improvements and additions.

You can find the library here:

It is a single C++ header file, released under MIT license.

What would be a recommended Windows app for recording CD/DVD disks? I can't find any on the Download Zone list, and I'm looking for one.

I personally like the free CDBurnerXP (, but Kaspersky Anti-Virus alerts about some malicious adware inside.

I like the list a lot :) It looks almost like the list of my favorites, except just:

- FastStone Image Viewer - IMHO best image browser. Freeware (not for commercial use). XnView is also a good alternative.

- foobar2000 - music player. Previously I used Aimp, which looks more like lightweight version of Winamp.

- jEdit - my favorite plain text editor. Very powerful. Its only drawback: it's written in Java :)

- WinDirStat - shows statistics and draws treemap of disk usage.

Ah yes, I'm sorry!

3D-Tech News Around The Web / Re: Firefox - WebGL Off the Main Thread

Does it mean WebGL will work on background thread in Firefox by default? Or JavaScript developer will have to explicitly use it?

I personally hate that all WebGL initialization happens on the main thread, especially shader compilation, because it hangs (and sometimes crashes) whole web brower, especially in ShaderToy.
