High CPU usage and high CPU power consumption when running FurMark dGPU stress

Why does running the FurMark dGPU stress test alone on a laptop with MS hybrid architecture result in high CPU usage and high power consumption?

However, if I minimize the FurMark window to the Windows taskbar and then restore the window, the high CPU usage and high power consumption disappear.
