Texture mapping for newbies
« on: July 05, 2019, 02:33:50 PM »
Hi all,

I have been reading upon texture mapping for a very specific application of the process: I have heard that it is possible to add a new image to an already generated point cloud, and that after the texture mapping, you can measure objects in that "new" image.

For example: let's say I have a point cloud (or mesh) of a room. Then, I take a photo of that room with a glass on top of the table. Assuming that I can pinpoint the exact place where the photo was taken (or is there an automatic method for this?), then I could texture map the photo, where the glass is the only "new" object, and somehow measure its dimensions. I heard this in a casual conversation and I have no contact with the person who said it: could anyone guide me to some resources where I could read upon this? Mobdro
