Here is a library of free 3D models published by NASA.
These models are for anybody that uses a 3D software package. Most of the models are in the common .3ds format, which can be read by most 3D programs. Some models, however, are in their original .lwo, .fbx, or .obj formats to preserve details that would be lost in conversion.
I quickly tested some of these models in GeeXLab 0.2.0. As they say, some details like correct textures filenames (especially for .3ds files) or global position are lost during the conversion to .3ds or .obj files. So a bit of tweaking is required for some models…
these are cool..i found them on the nasa site about a year ago, they only had a few really basic models back then..but now theres some nice quality models 🙂
forgot to add…most of these models are used in:
Nasa’s spacewalk game, http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/3d_resources/station_spacewalk_game.html
and some in NASA’s Moonbase Alpha game available for free on steam
