Radeon HD 5870 under load: 86.7°C – infra red image
Thanks to the new 40nm manufacturing process, the temperature is lower than the previous generation (HD 4000 series) although the doubling of the processing power. The VRM (voltage regulation module) part (near the power connector) keeps reasonable temperature. This is a good thing. I hope we can’t see anymore systems that reboot because of the too heavy startup load applied to the Radeon (FurMark, OCCT…) 😉
