Arauna is a Direct3D 9 real time ray tracer with global illumination (GI) support. On my system (Core2Duo 8400 + GeForce GTS 250 + WinXP sp2 32-bit), the demo runs at around 10 FPS. Both CPU cores are used and the author recommends a Core i7 to get optimal performance.
You can download the demo here: arauna_gi.zip (16Mb).
On my system (Core 2 Duo 6750( ОС 3200 ) Radeon 4850 (OC 725/2000) WinXP SP3 32-bit), the demo runs at around 19-20 FPS (noaa)
on MY system (Core 2 Duo 6750( ОС 3600 ) GTX 275 (633/1161) WinXP SP3 32-bit), the demo runs at around 25-30 FPS (noaa)
The pipes on the upper level are pretty impressive but the engine really slows down when multiple ray tracing is going on.
I don’ knowt, but something must be wrong with the poster’s computer.
My OCed E8400 and 8800GT run this @ 25+ FPS with no aa.
And don’t forget that ray-tracing is a very different way of rendering graphics.
It’s very different from raster graphics, which our common GPUs are designed to draw.
So it’s pretty good i’m getting 25 FPS 🙂
