Few days after the launch of the GeForce GTX 295, NVIDIA has launched the GeForce GTX 285. The GTX 285 is essentially a super version of the GTX 280. It’s a single GPU videocard with a 55nm GPU (still the GT200) (the GTX 280 is based on the 65nm GPU) that offers lower power consumption. The proof: the 6-pin + 8-pin power connectors of the GTX 280 have been replaced by two 6-pin connectors. GTX 285’s price is around 380$US.
GeForce GTX 285 main features:
– GPU: GT200 @ 648MHz / 55nm (by TSMC)
– Shader processors: 240
– Texture Units: 80
– ROPs: 32
– Memory: 1024Mb GDDR3 @ 1242MHz / 512-bit
Here is an overview of the GTX 285’s performances:
Direct3D test: Crysis
OpenGL test: Quake Wars
PhysX test: Mirror’s Edge
For a test of power consumption, loudness and cooling, just jump at PC Games Hardware. A complete system with a GeForce GTX 285 requires 295W to run the Xtreme test of FurMark and a Radeon HD 4870, for comparison, needs around 285W.
