GF100 Fermi Die Shot + GeForce GTX 480 and GTX 470 Details

GeForce GTX 470 GPU

GeForce GTX 480 GPU
This shot of Fermi / GF100 GPU has been taken by a member of Ngacn.cc forums. The die size is approximately 530mm2. The reference is GF100-375-A3. The A3 stepping is the retail revision.
Concerning the features, the GeForce GTX 480 (GPU: GF100-375-A3) has 480 shaders processors or CUDA cores and according to this news that means the GTX 480 has 480/32 = 15 Streaming Multiprocessors (CUDA terminilogy) or Compute Units (OpenCL terminilogy). The GeForce GTX 480 comes with 1.5GB (1536MB to be accurate!) of GDDR5 memory with a 384-bit memory bus.
The GeForce GTX 470 (GPU: GF100-275-A3) has 14 SM which leads to 14*32 = 448 CUDA cores and is equipped with 1.25GB of GDDR5 memory (1280MB, 384-bit).
The difference between the GTX 480 and the GTX 470 is only ONE COMPUTE UNIT !!!
For the sake of memory, her is a comparison table between the G80 (GeForce 8800 GTX), the GT200 (GeForce GTX 280) and the full version of the GF100 (GeForce GTX 490

Insane DIE size overengineered and therefore extremly ridiculous power consumption and getting very hot. Fermi facts so far point to a total failure just like NV30.

On the NVidia website they say the Fermi architecture has 512 cuda cores. The GTX 480 has 480 CUDA cores. Is the GTX 480 really a Fermi ?
Remove my comment, I didn’t read the whole thing… once again. The “full” Fermi must be the GTX 490 with 512 cores, the 480 and 470 being cheaper versions.
