The upcoming RV870, the GPU that will power ATI’s Radeon HD 5870 video cards, should be a DirectX 11-specification tweak of the RV770 GPU architecture. Here are some more detailed specs:

  • GPU: RV870 @ 900MHz / 40nm
  • Shader cores: 1200 (240 vec5 cores)
  • Memory: GDDR5 @ 1100MHz / 512-bit
  • Texture units: 48
  • ROPs: 32
  • 3D APIs: DirectX 11 / OpenGL 3 / Shader Model 5

    I can’t wait for the 5850 X2 or 5870 X2!
    As of now no PC games are running under DX11 and Shader 5 though we just have to wait for many months for those new game titles to come out that supports these technologies. Though im sure when DX11 is out and widely supported, many game developers will utilize DX 10.1 features which as of now so very few games are supported and its features can only be
    experience when using ATI Radeon’s high end 4000 series video cards.

    As for the 5850 X2 and 5870 X2. Well, made no mistake once i get one of these two i’ll over clock it and see how it’ll rock against the latest games like Crysis, Crysis Warhead and the more latest up coming ones like Bioshock 2, LDF2, Assassin’s Creed 2, and many more..
